Error Ref# 184: "Clamp current cannot be calculated" for all optimized designs
Hello,
In the 8.6 release of the software, I designed a shielded transformer power supply to output 3.3 volts and 0.6 amps from 115V in using a linkswitch-xt chip. However, when I tested it, it failed to output 0.5 amps and would autorestart.
I subsequently downloaded the 9.04 release of the software and attempted to redesign only to find the following problems:
1) The EF12.6 transformer is no longer provided as an option from optimization if shielding is selected
2) The RM6S/ILP core is recommended by optimization but when selected has the Ref# 570 error "Actual number of pins available on bobbin is not enough to build the transformer" which indicates this transformer should not be one of the possible options
3) All optimized results include the Ref# 184: "Clamp current cannot be calculated" for all optimized designs
I would like to know what my options are and whether any of the above represents an error in the software that may need to be fixed.
Thanks,
Jason

I will check the duty cycle and switch current values, but I have no way to check the transformer. I built the transformer and the circuit based on the specifications from the PI software.
I have attached two sample files where the 184 error occurs.
Thanks,
Jason

-->Did you check your transformer's inductance value? Can you confirm that the duty cycle and switch current are not hitting their peak values?
I subsequently downloaded the 9.04 release of the software and attempted to redesign only to find the following problems:
1) The EF12.6 transformer is no longer provided as an option from optimization if shielding is selected
-->When shielding is selected, the winding area available on the EF12.6 bobbin might not be enough to fit all windings, which is why the optimization routine selects the next larger bobbin/core comination
2) The RM6S/ILP core is recommended by optimization but when selected has the Ref# 570 error "Actual number of pins available on bobbin is not enough to build the transformer" which indicates this transformer should not be one of the possible options
-->This seems to be a bug in PIExpert. Thank you for pointing this out. You can overlook this error for now and refer to the 'Transformer Construction' tab.
3) All optimized results include the Ref# 184: "Clamp current cannot be calculated" for all optimized designs
-->I could not replicate this error; do you mind sending me your PIExpert file please?
